ABSTRACT CRAZY

So when I'm putting my kids to bed I sit up with my lap top and check my emails and surf the web and stuff but then one night I was messing around on Photoshop. I made these absracts with the lasso tool and paint bucket. and lots and lots of layers. I started playing around with Tartan inspired concepts. why? CAUSE I'M SCOTTISH!!! ( 500 years back or so, but who's counting)Thought I'd share. And yes the kids are asleep by the time I'm finished with these.

Very abstract indeed. My favourite is the last one. How long did it take you to make each on average?
I find it intriguing how something that can be completely random and abstract can have a thought out feel to it that is aesthetically pleasing.

AHHHH it's like SEEING SOUND, man!

I love all of the colors in each piece, and a lot of cool designs came through. Do you do this often in photoshop? haha

Paulo----- Yes Im the same guy. Thanks man. I'll check out your pg.

luxo------ I did that last one in maybe 20 min or less. hell in fact all of them took about 20 min. I find the randomness of the asthetics pleasing as well, though I do make choices based on what I'm seeing. Its fun.

Laurin c----- Yeah it kind of is like "seeing sound" and no I dont do this a lot in photoshop. just playing around. I actually encountered the effect of using the lasso tool from another artist-James Clyne- he was doing some really cool designs with the technique as well as incorporating it in artwork like on capes and stuff.

Mark to his kid, "I can teach you how to use this," raises laptop. "But first, I'll teach you how to use this." Points to head.

Mark!!

Nice paintings nothing like pouring one's crazyness into a canvas, the second one and the third one look like a person running.

The last one reminded me of the Beethoven's 5th symphony short animated film in Fantasia 2000.

Will Pixar experiment with abstact CG animation sometime soon? Not much like their style of animation.

but you never know...

Hope to see some more cool stuff soon!

Mark,

Hey man, it's Charles K. from old Cal Arts days. Love the paintings. But you've got to clarify something for me. How are you doing all this while "putting the kids to bed"? Putting my kids to bed involves dirty, soapy water, diapers and sippy cups. Not sure where to put my laptop. WHAT IS YOUR SECRET? : )

Best wishes!

Charles

Hey Charles,

the trick is to work AFTER you've put the kids to bed. but thats the best case scenario. After the kids ( my two boys in this case, thats half the kids) are in bed. I sit in the rocking chair with laptop and doodle while they fall asleep. they usually take a half hour or so to dose off so thats some good "me" time at any rate.

hope all is well.

Really interesting stuff mark. It's funny what the eye pulls out of all the shapes in each of those. I was seeing faces and stuff, very cool. The fifth one down is rad and my fave!

Mark;

It's Kyle. I've finally went and got me a blog. So I can put perty pictures up. And you can look at em. Yeah...

I can't see any images on your page though. I've already tried at work and here at home; all I get is blank boxes with no Mandrews flava in them. I'll assume that it's somehow my fault; maybe I'm not focusing my eyes right. Was hoping to show off some of your stuff to me workmates.

Well, I'll put some eye drops in and try again tomorrow. Cheers dude.

I love when looking at abstract how your eye starts tricking you and you believe that you see landscapes and highways, and flora and fauna, you can just escape right into them! Very cool, Mark!

Hey Mark,

These are amazing! I just saw Brave and I loved it! I can't wait to see more of your movies and hear more about your success. I also, really liked how you wore your kilt to the premiere. It made me and my parents laugh because we remembered how you showed up to the Andrews family reunion wearing it. I don't know how much you read the comments. But I am one of your many cousins, I'm the daughter of John who is the son of James and Leona .

I hope all is well with you and your family!
