Yeah.... I game! so what

I've said it before so I'll say it again- Gaming is such a rich resource to inspire the imagination. In fact its THE BEST. anyway heres some characters I did for a superheros campaign I ran several years ago. Rule number one DONT DO A SUPERHERO CAMPAIGN. It was fun and all but its a big pain in the ass. any gaming in modernday is well kinda crappy. Why? Because we know to much so the convention of suspension of disbelief is out the door. Fantasy even sci fi works the best.

Images below inspired from the game.

These guys are the Instructors at the Academy. They help you train and develop your powers. No they don't have any powers of their own...or do they?

Bad guys- everyone below is a super villian the characters had to fight. Some have super powers and a couple ( you'll pick 'em out) are genenticlly designed ala Dr. Moreau.

And then theres my Dr Doom tribute villian.

That huntsman drawing is incredible, Mark! Sheesh. Awesome.

ps. I like how your blog format allows you to make your pictures bigger too. More impact and you don't have to click on stuff to enlarge.

Great stuff!
Love the Baron!
I too enjoy role playing. I agree its hard to do things in a modern setting but I enjoy the challenge. I am currently into an alternate ww2 campaign that is set up like the comics and pulp fiction from the period. Lots of fun in stretching my knowledge of ww2 history.
Sometimes its fun to take the Max Headroom route and go 20 minutes into the future.
Story wise you can be a little more open to changes that way.

Samacleod----- thanks man. the art is 72 dpi 7 inches wide and however long. works out well.

Sant arellano---- Hey! So thanks for checking out th eblog. Thanks for the comments. I get alot of flak about gaming. people whjo think its dumb or that people who play are dumb. theres a lot of crap ( useless eyecandy) all over the place movies, video games, comics. but yes you dig down a litle bit and there is always great stuff.

Rob A.----- I hear ya. modern is hard man. We played a ww2 campaign that was pretty cool but when you get shot i your screwed. not like in fantasy where you get herbs and get all better. if your knee gets shot the game is done and your in a hostpital for months. boaring. Pirates was a fun campaign too, even wild west but the best no holds bar is fantasy. its got it all.

I really like Speedkill. Reminds me of Prince of Persia - The Two Thrones (again! I'm sure I mentioned it on another post... i'm surprised you haven't played it yet).

The prince can do a cool move called the speed kill in that. It's pretty awesome.

sant arellano mentioned Grim Fandango... i loved that demo; i never really got to play the complete game. The designs in that were really cool and great storytelling as well.

Oh, and whoever it is that thinks gaming sucks obviously hasn't played the right games.

Hey Mark... Gaming rules! If you want a great modern setting with fantasy built in, look for the old Palladium games Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles RPG. It's sort of dated with 1980's pricing (including the DeLorean), but it's easy to modify to Today's standards.

Character creation can be random, which adds to the improv aspect of gaming. You can let the dice decide the animal, mutation cause, and background education/training. It's great. You might find some of the old stuff online.

But you're right... fantasy is the best setting.

Gaming is awesome. Fantasy's best (even for a girl). Back in France in the early 90s, RPG's reputation was getting so bad that people started associating it to Satanic cults. Go figure!
About games in modern time, if the team starts bickering about believability, just club them (or summon an orc or something).
