ANOTHER GRAPHIC NOVEL

Thats right true believers, I think I am crazy enough to do it again. Call me insane ( just not to my face 'cause I'm sensitive) but I have this overwhelming desire to do another one. I've had this story I've been kicking around way before COLOSSUS about this cowboy who gets...well...abducted. He wakes up in an enclosure that looks just like the wild west except its only a couple square miles, the rest is a hologram. Not to get to into it he meets up with different alien beings who have also been taken away from their worlds and want back. So our unlikely group have to not only solve the mystery and find a way home but survive each other in the process.

I don't know how long the book will take me to do but probably a year or so. It will be 200 plus pgs and potentially full color. I'm just starting to do some exploration with the characters and look before I lay into it. pgs will be updated on the blog as I go.

Takes a deep breath, wipe forehead aaaaaand..... GO!

Wow, here you go again! This sounds cool Mark! I have to say again your prolificness (not a word and certainly not spelled right, is contagious!) I'm starting on something new and this is just the type of thing I needed to hear. A friend told me a quote by Lucial Ball strangley enough, that went something like, "If you want something to get done, give it to the busiest person you know". This is surly the case with you.

Friking awesome man!!!

I'm still reading Colossus, I take my time with these things because of school, but I want this one already!

Awesome, the premise looks great, I always like how the alien thought process is interpreted by us, the reasons we give them to abduct us. There's an animated documentary called "Abductees" which shows real testimonies of abductions, and in one of them a guy says the aliens asked him to explain the concept of "Rescue", isn't that awesome!?!?

Well, you have my blessings Mr. Andrews, hope it turns out great!

I'm panting my way through animating my shortfilm and squeezing time to do more storyboards, if I put something up, would you be so kind to give it a quick glance??

Take care,

Sant

Very awesome Mark! Idea sounds cool and unique.

I like the color a bit more than the b&w, but that's just me. You sure you're going to make us wait a year for this?! :p

sounds great, your black and white pic of the cowboy got me wondering if might consider doing the book in sepia tone? look forward to seeing when it's all done!

Mark,

You're already intriguing me with the thread of your story -- lots of potential there.

A good story -- paired with your awesome art -- I CAN'T WAIT.

I just don't know how all you guys do it -- work probably 50-60 hour weeks (no doubt loving most every minute of it), making time for family, and then doing all these wonderful outside projects.

This is one of the main reasons I admire and respect you and so many of your peers.

Keep it up. Quality items always find a market.

Finally, congrats on your directing gig.

Dan Scanlon---- Thanks man! you go get 'em too.

Sant---- Thanks man. I'll look out for that animated documentary. Sure I'll check out your boards.

Steve---- yes a year or more. Don't know how long it will take to do. It all depends on when I can grab, beg, steal, make time. We'll see about color. heh heh. Most likely more sellable.

samacleod---- yes! absolutely

the sir james suhr---- sepia tone huh? perhaps. though when it gets into the scifi realm I'd have to pick another monochromatic color.

mnmears---- Totally lots of potential just you wait. As for how we do it.....? Shear will. If you want to do something you just do it. Its basically the discipline to do without sleep. heh heh.

As for directing, Thanks man I will do my best!

Wow! A cowboy western in space? I want to read that right now. Awesome idea. I say you color it both ways. Do the western part in sepias, and then switch over to a saturated technicolor palette for the outer space saga. Can't wait to see what you do.

Great idea, Mark!

I'm still tripping on Colossus. What're you gonna call this one?

I love anachronistic setups like this. It really helps to mix genres and delve into something new!

What's this "directing gig" I'm hearing about?

Which reminds me, congrats on the (cough!) "script" of a certain (cough!) movie, about a guy named (cough!) John (or was it Jack?)!

Oh, and this one should definitely be in color!

How about a mixture of black and white and color? Flashback sequences in grayscale would be super cool. Or the entire intro done in b&w up until the moment he awakens in the holographic environment. The rest in fabulous color.

Nifty sketches, Mark.

You can kick me in the teeth for not doing this earlier, but I finally managed to pick up Colossus and am looking forward to reading it.

As for this one, not that my opinion matters much, but I'd say COLOUR!

Best of luck with it.
