What Brown didn't do for me!

Well the San Diego Comic-Con is over and did I have a blast. But it wasn't all fun and laughs no sir. It started off a very different story.

UPS screwd me! Thats right. I was all ready to recieve my shipment of Colossus-- 18 packages, 39 books a box. It was sent express from India. Thats right India. Had my books printed over there. They were shipped to be here in time for comic-con. i had schedueled to leave on tue night. Be there wed morning unload set up camp with the rest of the E-ville Press guys( thats short for Emeryville where me and some of my other buddies work, thats right, comics isnt my day job).

So, I track the shipment, left New Dehli on Thur should arrive Mon thats three working days as promised for exprees ( they get Saturday for free) so thats actually four working days. Me and the boys were planning on having a sale at our place or work on monday before the con. So when do my boxes arrive.......? Tue! That five days boys and girls five freeking days!!!- AND THATS EXPRESS!!!! Not only are they late, like hours before I leave, they don't deliver all my boxes!!!! 16 out 0f 18?!!! WHAT THE HELL???!!!

I rent a cargo van so that all th eE-ville Press guys and myself can load up and make one trip, but because the books are late I have to rent a second van and drive myself down and unload by myself ( missing the forklift do it for you day) It was stressful and a mess.

So I had planned to drive down with my family but instead was stuck in a van for 12 hours. UPS screwd me.

Anyway, it turned out all right I set up shop, we had two tables. Sold 194 books, 15 shirts, and three pages of original art. Hung with my guys, had a great time with my family in the off hours and saw Gene Simmons.

what a comic-con.

Moral of the story- dont use UPS

the books arrived

the long drive at night

The table set up

the whole set up on my side of the table. Thats Ted Mathot on the left- his book kicks butt Rose and Isabel find it get it.

Wow, what a bummer. Well i am never going to use UPS. It sounds like you had a great time at the con however.

I am very very envious.

No wonder they call you the "Force of Nature". You can write an adventure just about UPS/drive down to SC/loading/packing possibly called "Transporter 3". Add a few explosions, gun fights, sword action. (Not sure whether Brown or Homeland Security will be pleased).

Anyway, it appears that you guys had a great time. I could not make the trip but had a friend up the book. It will make an interesting read over the weekend.

Cheers to your independent venture.

Shine-- Yeah, it was a bummer just getting the books, down to the wire, what a headache but it turned out alright in th eend. Live and learn. As for a paypal could'nt hurt.

Luxo Jr.-- thanks for the comments- con was great- faith in our package transportation system, shaken- I can't wait for YOU to buy a copy.

Charles--My ordeal at times felt like the transporter, even had blackhawks fly over me down camp pendelton way sandeigo.... less the gun fire and explosions. I'd love to hear your comments after you read it...and tell all your pals. spread the word CK

Ack, sorry to hear about UPS screwing up on your books! I recently had my $2500 laptop (long story) stolen by FedEx so they aren't very accountable either... sigh.

Unfortunately, I wasn't able to fly down for the Comic-Con and see your booth. Thanks for putting up the pictures though! The book looks sweet! I can't wait to get a copy!

I've been doing more drawings lately, both from imagination and from life. I'm still using what you've taught me! I'm also in this drawing group called DrawerGeeks ( which helps me draw regularly. It's a bunch of animators, comic artists, story artists, etc. from various companies just drawing off the same character theme every 2-3 weeks.

The first time I exhibited at comic-con I had a shipment of books (being sent from Canada to San diego) held up in customs for a few days because of some typo on the paperwork. i didn't even get them out of customs until Saturday.... GAHH!

Hi Mark,

I just read your book in one sitting. Well, it was "Incredible". The story has great pacing. It is much darker than "Samurai Jack" or "Clone Wars" where robots are killed whereas in the case of Colussus, people are killed. I am impressed with the story telling, layout and the overall originality of the story. It is not just about non stop blood and guts action. You did a great job in developing the characters.

While reading your book, I was listening to Led Zepplin to get the mood. (Rain Song, Battle of Evermore)

Unfortunately, there are issues with the printer where some of pages are a tad too dark and over saturated. The images that you posted in your blog show the intended contrast/brightness/saturation. If there is 2nd printing, I suggest pre-flight or print sample before the run. I work at Electronics for Imaging. There are lot of guys with experience in both digital as well as off set printing if you need advice.

In any rate, I will definately spread the word. There are legion of animation/comic buffs at my company. I will pass your book around as well as other E-ville books. I am sure that it will generate interest.

Cudos to your independent project.

Take care,

PS. Are there still original pages available?

Billy- ach sorry to hear about your lap top. as it turns out they lost on of my boxes completely. Call me Ill get you a copy

mr. Baker- Thanks for the story. I am not alone.

Jsanford- Call me Ill hook you up

Charles- Im glad you liked it. Its my kinda story! As for the printing, yeah a couple of signature went a little dark, or more so the values a little to close. i had great proofs sent to me that I approved, they were origianally to light so I said make em darker... live an learn. However its not to far off of my stuff on the computer.

any way....

as for original...yes I do have some left. Lets talk

Loved the book. I've read it twice so far. I'm not sure but did I detect an ode to a couple of classic movies in some of the panels? Great art. I think it's one of my favorite periods of history. I love the abruptness of the main villian. Soo nasty!
It was really nice meeting you and the other guys at the Con. I'm the guy from Ottawa... You know... Canada...
